WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU VISIT US

A typical visit to EndoSure begins with completing a Patient History and Chief Complaint Registration Form.
You can download this form and email it back to us ahead of your appointment. It is advisable to bring a list of
all the medications (over-the-counter and prescription) that you regularly/have taken within the past month.

We will review and use your referring dentist or specialist's letter and any images (radiographs, photographs) provided, in conjunction with others taken by us as required, during a consultation to establish a diagnosis and determine the best treatment care and prognosis for you.

You will be informed about the benefits, options and risks involved in order for you to understand how endodontic treatment can relieve your pain or dysfunction and save your tooth/teeth. Consent forms for procedures will be completed at this stage, prior to commencing. If you decide to receive treatment, the procedure may start immediately. In many cases a consultation may not be required, such as where a diagnosis has been confirmed by your referring dentist or where a treatment plan has been proposed and accepted or even begun.

Before treatment begins, you will receive local anaesthesia to numb any sensations you may feel during the procedure. Sedation can be arranged for apprehensive patients. However this may incur a separate fee if an anaesthetist is required. If the procedure is unable to be completed within one visit, an antiseptic medicament will be placed inside the root canals and the tooth restored with a bonded permanent-type filling material to maintain or return the tooth to normal function.

Once your procedure is complete, final radiographs are taken, to be included with a report back to your dentist. Follow up checks and radiographs may be taken at specific intervals after completion, to review and track the success of your treatment. Written post-operative instructions will be provided after surgical procedures.

Be sure to contact us (phone, txt or email) if you have any questions or concerns regarding your treatment.

Treatments and Procedures

You’re probably reading this because your dentist or endodontist said you have a diseased or injured tooth. If so, rest assured that in the majority of cases, your tooth can be saved with endodontic treatment. Learn about the treatment options available to you, so that you can discuss them with your endodontist and make the best choice for your oral health.

Endodontic treatment helps you maintain your natural smile, continue eating the foods you love and limits the need for ongoing dental work. With proper care, most teeth that have had root canal treatment can last as long as other natural teeth and often for a lifetime.

Post Treatment Care

It is normal to feel some tenderness in the area for a few days after your root canal treatment as your body undergoes the natural healing process. You may also feel some tenderness in your jaw and limitation of opening. This is due to keeping your jaw open for an extended period of time or possibly as a result of the local anaesthetic injection/s. These symptoms are temporary and usually respond very well to over-the-counter pain medications. It is important for you to follow the instructions on how to take these medications. Remember that narcotic medications, if prescribed, may make you drowsy, and caution should be exercised in operating dangerous machinery or driving a car after taking them.

Your tooth may continue to feel slightly different from your other teeth for some time after your root canal treatment has been completed. However, if you have severe pain or pressure that lasts more than a few days, contact EndoSure.

TAKING CARE OF YOUR TOOTH

Root canal treatment is only one step in returning your tooth to full function. A proper final restoration of the tooth is extremely important in ensuring long-term success.

We will instruct you as to when to contact your dentist for further recommended restorative procedures. Root filled premolars and molars will requires full cuspal coverage for long term protection from biting forces. In some cases this can be achieved with existing available materials but in many cases a precision fabricated crown will be required (porcelain, ceramic, metal overlay or full crown). Some teeth may also require full coverage crowns for functional or aesthetic reasons. If you have any queries please contact us.

WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS

The tooth that has had appropriate endodontic treatment followed by a proper restoration can last as long as your other natural teeth. After the tooth has been restored, you need only practice good oral hygiene, including brushing, flossing, regular checkups and cleanings.

Your dentist or EndoSure may periodically x-ray the tooth to ensure that healing has occurred. Occasionally, a tooth that has undergone endodontic treatment does not heal or pain continues. At times, the tooth may become painful or diseased months or even years after successful treatment. Often when this occurs, repeating the endodontic procedure or a surgical approach can still save the tooth.
